The HKC is a local Kashrut supervisory agency based in West Hartford, Connecticut. It adheres to the highest standards of Kashrut, and endeavors to abide by the standards of nationally respected organizations and agencies. The HKC is now in its 15th year of operation and is recognized by the Rabbinic Fellowship of Greater Hartford, comprised of Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform rabbis, and is a beneficiary agency of the Greater Hartford Jewish Federation. The Rabbinic Administrator of the HKC is Rabbi Yitzchok Adler. Rabbi Adler studied at the Yeshiva of the South in Memphis and received his rabbinical ordination, s'micha, in 1977. In 1976, he graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in Political Science. Prior to assuming the position in Jacksonville, he was the rabbi in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and he served on the rabbinic staff of B'nai Brith Jacob Synagogue in Savannah, Georgia. In 1988, Rabbi Adler was elected to the Executive Board of the Rabbinical Council of America, and served in that capacity for a three year term and in 1994 he was elected to another two terms. In 1989, he was appointed to be the founding chairman of the Rabbinical Council's Southeast Regional Beth Din, a position he held until his relocation to Connecticut. In 1990, Rabbi Adler was appointed to serve on the RCA's Gerut (conversion) Commission and the nomination was approved unanimously by the City Council. Rabbi Adler was an adjunct pastoral counselor for Jacksonville's Mental Health Resource Center. Rabbi Adler also is a mohel and is involved in community education.
